Well hey there, it’s so nice to meet you! 👋🏻 I'm Roosa, a 27 year old Finnish amateur dressage rider based in Turku, Finland with my two lovely horses. Welcome to my little corner of the web, where I share my equestrian life with you all! Roosa's Horsey Life is an equestrian blog that contains everything from dressage competitions and training tips to equestrian style, fashion and matchy advice. 💻📝 As an amateur dressage rider and horse owner, I’m obsessed with equestrian fashion. This blog highlights the most recent trends from well known equestrian brands, my favourite products, training tips, lesson recaps as well as featuring tales about my horsey life – the ups and the downs of owning and training my horses who give me plenty of sleepless nights and grey hair.
So just a little bit about my (non-horsey) background: after completing my IB degree in Helsinki at the Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteiskoulu in 2012 and then spending my gap year in Germany working for my brother, in September 2013 I moved to Nottingham UK from Finland to do my bachelors degree in politics at the University of Nottingham. I was very lucky to be given the chance to take my horse Vallu with me. After three years of hard work at university (an even more work and training with Vallu) I managed to graduate with a 2:1 in June 2016. After this, I was accepted to carry on with my studies at the University of Helsinki. There I did my Master's degree in European Studies and I graduated in June 2018 with a 4/very good. 🎓
Where it all started... |
My history with horses is a long one! I've been riding since I was a little girl and I think it's pretty safe to say that riding is in my blood. My mother is a keen rider and one of my older brothers is a professional dressage rider. My biggest inspiration for riding and having horses has to be my big brother Henri Ruoste. I remember wanting to start riding because I was so desperate to follow in his footsteps. I'm very close to him and being able to follow his journey has been amazing. Learning from him has definitely developed my own thinking about riding and horses, and it's pretty clear that I'm one of his biggest supporters and fans!
When I was 12 years old my dreams came true and my lovely parents bought me my first pony. Briggsen was a very talented pony but certainly not one of the easiest to ride - he taught me a lot about horses and riding, mainly to always get back on a horse never mind how many times you have fallen off. My ability to stay on horses no matter what moves they decide to do is entirely down to my pony who taught me how to stay on, after having fallen off him probably a thousand times. He really did start my journey of my equestrian life and the start of my life long love affairs with these wonderful animals! I'm forever grateful to have had the little guy in my life. ❤️
Once I'd grown too tall for him, I had a young horse waiting in the wings for me! I truly did have luck on my side because I couldn't have asked for a better horse to learn about riding and horsemanship with. Riverfield Bastitini (also known as Basse on the blog) was 4 years old when I first rode him and he has taught me how to train a young horse from preliminary to elementary, how to ride at competitions and he's taught me to grow as a rider. After more than 50 dressage competitions together, I cannot thank this horse enough for all that he has given me. My journey then carried on with Vallu, and I was incredibly lucky to be given the chance to have a PSG schoolmaster when my parents let me take over the ride in 2011. Several years later in January 2018 another bay joined my team! My wonderfully talented Erik graced his presence in my life for a magical three years before a severe colic attack took him from me in August 2021. My first mare Melisse joined my crazy life in May 2018 and so far has been an absolute gem.
