Snow weekend

"When it snows, you have two choices: shovel, or make snow angels." ❄️☃️❄️ Or, if you have horses at home, do a sun and rain dance and pray to everything out there that the snow will melt away as quickly as possible!! So the current weather is certainly feeling wintery... A blizzard arrived on Thursday night, and I woke up on Friday morning to feed the horses to what can only be described as horror as I realised we'd had about 7cm of snow, and it looked like it was going to stay.
After having kept the horses in for most of Friday (there's only so much hand walking a girl can do!) by Saturday midday it was time to let the horses blow off steam. So with every single horse booted and rugged up, we could only hope that their shoes would stay on and that no one would injure themselves. After a few minutes of the horses deciding to increase my heart rate dramatically - thanks Erik!! - they all settled down and spent three hours sunbathing, eating hay and rolling around in the snow whilst my boyfriend and I sat on hay bales with a beverage in hand enjoying the sunshine! 😎
After battling with the snow for two days, we thought we were on the home straight... However, the water pipes had other ideas! Whilst I was feeding the horses on Sunday morning I suddenly found out there was no water when I tried to fill up water buckets. NOT good! 🚨 It was all hands on deck in order to deal with this - dad was promptly sent to the shops to go buy as many big bottles of water as the car boot could contain. Despite his valiant effort (thank you dad ❣️) we still needed more water for the horses for evening check, so more drastic measures were needed. We went back to the drawing board, and ended up melting the snow on the hob for an hour and a half - what wouldn't we do for the horses! 🙈 After being snowed under all weekend, it was such a relief to get back in the saddle. Despite me holding my breath for the first five minutes, Erik exceeded my expectations and dealt with the snow well.
Here's to spring arriving soon! 🙏🏻💐🌿 I hate feeling cold and I am not a fan of winter at all, so I have all of my many layers out and have spent most of my days looking like the Michelin man... At least I managed to stay warm thanks to a the perfect layering with a Pikeur technical top, Olco Equestrian sweater and my trusty Rydale gilet. And Erik is looking fabulous in his Eskadron Heritage ash blue set 😍
How about you, did you get any snow this weekend? What did your horses have to say about it? ❄️

  1. I'm with you, I'm not a winter person, and pretty much spend the whole winter (which, here in Canada, lasts from November through to April) wishing for summer to come. So sorry your water froze! That's definitely a pain in the butt, but it sounds like you dealt with it all with good humour!

  2. Since ours live out, they just put up with it. As long as they had hay or could nuzzle down to the grass! Nightmare about the water though, over the years we’ve developed a way of covering the tap and key pipe bits with insulation so luckily we didn’t have that issue. I love snow but I’m definitely keen for spring!
